Coaching Carousel

With Mike Anderson eminent move to Arkansas it makes the debate over what coaches value. Alma Mater's, original schools they coached for, big programs, power conferences, hometowns, money, what pulls coaches away from their current programs, Anderson was due to make 2 mil per season to stay at Mizzu and his program has had success with 3 NCAA tournament appearances including an elite eight. Why leave? It takes 3 years to recruit your own players that fit a system you want to implement and when you are beloved as Mike Anderson is at Mizzu.

To upgrade from a mid-major to an upper echelon conference I understand but the long term successful coaches stay put. Yes Roy Williams left Kansas for UNC but Lute Olsen, Coach K, Tom Izzo, Jim Boeheim, and even Billy Donovan who has been at Florida since 1996 elected to decline an offer from U of Kentucky and the NBA. Consistency helps recruit top talent and Mike Anderson should take note.

Unless you are trying to avoid NCAA sanction by moving, cue Pete Carroll
